What is cellulite?

Cellulite, commonly known as "orange-peel skin", is a condition characterized by uneven, dimpled and lumpy skin, most commonly affecting the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, hips, arms and back. It develops when subcutaneous fat pushes upward against the skin while fibrous connective-tissue bands surrounding the fat become hardened, contract and pull the skin downward. This creates the characteristic dimpling and uneven surface associated with cellulite.
Cellulite is not harmful to health, but it can significantly affect body appearance and self-confidence. It is particularly common in women and may become more noticeable after puberty, pregnancy, hormonal changes, rapid weight loss or aging. At RejuvLab, we utilize a comprehensive, multimodal approach combining weight management, advanced energy-based technologies, injectable skin-rejuvenation treatments and intensive therapeutic massage to address the multiple structural factors contributing to cellulite.

Causes and mechanisms of cellulite formation
Cellulite develops through a combination of changes in subcutaneous fat, connective tissue, blood and lymphatic circulation and hormonal factors:
Where does Cellulite commonly appear?

Inner and outer thighs and buttocks

Abdomen and hips

Upper arms

Knees and lower back
Who is most likely to develop Cellulite?

Women after puberty, childbirth or during perimenopause

Individuals with genetic predisposition or hormonal imbalances

People with excess subcutaneous fat or a high percentage of body fat

People who are physically inactive or have poor circulation

Individuals with loose or lax skin, particularly after rapid weight loss

Cellulite treatment at RejuvLab?
At RejuvLab, cellulite treatment is customized according to the severity, location and underlying characteristics of each client's cellulite. A multimodal treatment plan may combine advanced energy-based technologies, injectable skin-rejuvenation products, therapeutic massage and weight-management strategies to address fat accumulation, fibrous tissue, skin laxity, circulation and collagen loss.
- Mechanism: CFU Èlife utilizes next-generation high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), delivering focused energy at depths of 1.5-13 mm to create thermal coagulation points above 65°C. This helps break down hardened fibrous fatty tissue, contract collagen fibers and stimulate connective-tissue regeneration.
- Clinical benefits: reduces localized fat, improves skin laxity, firms the treated area and smooths the appearance of orange-peel skin.
- Clinical advantages: non-invasive, painless and requires no downtime, with relatively few treatment sessions.
- Frequency: 1-3 sessions, with at least 4 weeks between sessions.
- Mechanism: BodyFX combines bipolar radiofrequency (RF), vacuum suction and high-voltage electrical pulses to penetrate deeply into the subcutaneous fat layer. Through irreversible electroporation, the technology disrupts targeted fat-cell membranes, softens fatty tissue and helps improve the structure of the fibrous septa surrounding the fat. The Plus component distributes bipolar RF energy evenly throughout the treated area while stimulating collagen production to support skin regeneration and firmness.
- Clinical benefits: reduces localized fat, skin roughness and laxity while improving blood and lymphatic circulation. It helps the skin become thicker, firmer and more elastic.
- Clinical advantages: FDA-cleared technology in the United States; safe, non-invasive and designed to provide rapid body-contouring results.
- Frequency: 4-6 sessions, spaced 1-2 weeks apart.
- Mechanism: Morpheus8 combines bipolar radiofrequency with microneedling, delivering energy at depths of 0.5-7 mm with an additional 1 mm thermal configuration. This multi-level approach combines fat coagulation, connective-tissue contraction and sub-necrotic heating to promote skin renewal, collagen regeneration and remodeling of subcutaneous fat tissue. Indirect Fibro Septal RF technology also creates a fibrous Fibro Septal Network (FSN), helping reinforce the skin-fat matrix and improve tissue structure.
- Clinical benefits: reduces localized fat, improves skin surface texture, increases skin thickness and firmness and creates a smoother, more even appearance.
- Clinical advantages: FDA-cleared technology in the United States, capable of delivering rapid results and safely combining with injectable skin-rejuvenation treatments when clinically appropriate.
- Frequency: 2-3 sessions, spaced 3-6 weeks apart.
- Mechanism: Evolve X combines bipolar radiofrequency (RF), electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) and high-voltage pulses (HVP) to strengthen muscles, reduce fat, improve circulation and stimulate collagen and elastin remodeling.
- Clinical benefits: firms the skin, reduces skin dimpling and enhances overall body contours.
- Clinical advantages: FDA-cleared technology in the United States; quick, painless treatment sessions with no downtime.
- Frequency: 4-8 sessions, approximately 1 week apart.
- Composition: Radiesse contains 30% synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, approximately 25-45 μm in diameter, suspended in 70% carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) glycerin gel.
- Mechanism: CaHA microspheres act as a supportive scaffold that stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping rebuild the skin structure. The CMC gel provides an immediate volumizing effect and helps improve areas affected by volume loss.
- Clinical benefits: rejuvenates the skin, improves elasticity and firmness, supports lax skin and fills depressed areas to reduce the uneven appearance of cellulite.
- Method: injection using a cannula.
- Treatment course: usually 1 session, with repeat treatment generally required after more than 1 year.
- Duration of results: approximately 12-24 months.

Lenisna
- Composition: Lenisna contains PDLLA (170 mg) and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) (30 mg), with PDLLA particle sizes of approximately 40-80 μm.
- Mechanism: PDLLA stimulates new collagen production, helps preserve existing collagen, supports adipose-derived stem-cell formation, regulates inflammatory processes and promotes tissue recovery. The HA component provides hydration and a mild volumizing effect.
- Clinical benefits: rejuvenates the skin, improves hydration, elasticity and firmness and fills depressed areas to reduce the uneven appearance of cellulite.
- Method: injection using a cannula.
- Treatment course: usually 3 sessions, approximately 1 month apart.
- Duration of results: approximately 12-24 months.

- Method: intensive therapeutic massage is performed manually by a trained specialist and may be combined with a nourishing skin mask and LED phototherapy.
- Mechanism and Clinical benefits: targets superficial fat and connective tissue while supporting blood circulation and delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the treated tissues. It may help eliminate metabolic waste, reduce fluid retention, soften fatty tissue, enhance metabolism and improve the appearance of cellulite.

Frequently asked questions
Absolutely. Depending on the severity, location and underlying characteristics of cellulite, your doctor may combine several treatment methods within one personalized treatment plan to address fat accumulation, fibrous tissue, skin laxity and collagen loss. Treatment will generally begin with appropriate advanced energy-based technologies before additional modalities are incorporated when clinically indicated.
Results vary depending on the treatment method, severity of cellulite and individual response. In general, clients may begin to notice smoother and firmer skin from approximately 4 weeks after treatment, with results continuing to develop as collagen remodeling and tissue regeneration progress.
Treatment methods at RejuvLab are either non-invasive or minimally invasive. When injectable treatments are performed, gentle cannula-based techniques are used and topical anesthetic is applied beforehand. As a result, discomfort is generally minimal.
Mild tingling, warmth or temporary skin redness may occur during or after energy-based treatments and typically resolve within 1-2 days. Following injectable treatments, temporary swelling, redness or bruising at the injection sites may occur. These effects are generally short-lived and can be managed with appropriate skin-recovery measures provided at the clinic.
Immediately after injectable or Morpheus8 treatments, the doctor may apply a restorative mask or perform cold iontophoresis to help reduce swelling and redness. Use gentle skincare products, apply moisturizer and use sunscreen diligently for 3-5 days. After this period, clients can generally return to their usual skincare routine. Following other advanced technology-based treatments, protect the treated area from excessive friction and high temperatures. Avoid high-intensity physical activity immediately after treatment and choose gentle movement instead.
Stop using vitamin A acids and retinoids 3 days before treatment. Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment. If medically appropriate and approved by your physician, avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), aspirin and anticoagulants for 10 days before treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding. Stay well hydrated before treatment to support skin hydration and the recovery process.
